Resident, Suspect Fight During Home Burglary

A fight between a resident and burglar broke out at a home on Trafalgar on Saturday.

A suspect broke into a Newport Beach home this week, and got into a physical fight with the resident when he found in a coat closet, police reported.

The incident took place on Saturday just before 7 p.m. at a home on Trafalgar. According to police, a man in his 20s forced open a set of rear French doors and went into the house. A pool door alarm was immediately activated, but police say the burglar was able to silence the alarm. One of the residents was alerted by the alarm, and realized the home was being burglarized.

Police said when the resident went to investigate, he found the burglar searching in a coat closet and the two men got into a physical fight. According to police, the resident falsely told the burglar he called police. When the two men separated, the resident went into a bedroom and called police and the burglar fled.

No other information was released.
