A home in Newport Beach was burglarized and ransacked on Christmas Eve, police reported.

The burglary took place on Tuesday, sometime between 7 p.m. and midnight, at a home on Avalon Vista. According to police, the suspect used a vine to climb onto the second floor ledge to get onto the balcony. The suspect then smashed a window of a French door and crawled inside the house. Police said the suspect forced open a locked closet door, ransacked it and then ransacked a second closet before fleeing back down the balcony.

Money and a Rolex watch were reported stolen from the home.

Well, the good news is the police chief has finally stopped claiming all these burglaries are because we stupid residents aren't smart enough to lock our doors and windows. Guess that must have applied to the two ATMs stolen right on Coast Hwy??? Darn those forgetful owners! The bad news is burglars are feasting on Newport Beach homes because they're getting away with it. It's time for answers for our (very) well equipped PD.
