Update: Man Struck By Car on Balboa Island Bridge

Witnesses reported the victim was a boy, but police confirmed the injured pedestrian is 20-years-old.

A man was hit by a car over the weekend on the Balboa Island Bridge, but the cause of the accident was unknown, police reported today.

The accident was reported about 1:50 p.m. Saturday on Marine Avenue, between Bayside Drive and North Bay Front, when a black BMW struck a 20-year-old man, according to Kathy Lowe, spokeswoman for the Newport Beach Police Department.

"The vehicle was traveling northbound on the bridge when it struck the  pedestrian," Lowe explained. "The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.

Lowe said the driver of the BMW was not arrested.
