Body Found in Bay ID'd as Missing Irvine Man

Alan Sun-Long Lin was last seen leaving a Newport Beach bar Feb. 5.

Authorities have identified the dead man found floating in Newport Bay on Sunday as , an Irvine resident who was last seen earlier this month leaving a Newport Beach bar.

An autopsy on Lin, 23, who was identified through fingerprints, will likely be done Monday, police spokesman Sgt. Steve Burdette said. What caused Lin’s death and how he ended up in the water were not immediately apparent, he said.

Officers responded to a call from a passerby about a body in the bay near Bluewater Grill about 7:16 a.m., Burdette said. The investigation is still under way, he said.

Police on Thursday had requested the public’s help in locating Lin. According to family members, Lin was last seen leaving Rudy's Pub & Grill about 1 a.m. on Feb. 5.

Police request that anyone with information about Lin call 800-550-NBPD. Tips can be left anonymously.
