Alarm Scares Off Newport Burglar

A burglar tries to pry open a laundry room door at a home on Portside Way, but flees when the security alarm goes off.

A burglar tried to break into a Newport Beach home recently, but was scared off by a security alarm, police reported.

The attempted burglary occurred at a home in the 1200 block of Portside Way on Friday, Aug. 9 at 9 p.m. Police said the suspect went into the yard through an unlocked side gate and tried to pry open the laundry room door. The suspect fled after the home's security alarm went off. 

The resident was out of town during the attempt burglary and had uncollected newspapers and mail visible from the street, police said.
