5-Year-Old Tumbles into Fire Pit, Sustains Serious Burns

The boys suffered second- and third-degree burns on his feet and one arm.

A 5-year-old boy, who tumbled into a fire pit near the Balboa Pier, was recovering today from serious burns.

The boy fell into the fire ring just before 4 p.m. Sunday and was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana with second- and third-degree burns to his feet and one arm, according to Jennifer Manzella, a spokeswoman for the Newport Beach Police Department.

The boy's condition today was not immediately available, but his wounds were not considered life-threatening, Manzella said.
