Newport 5K to Raise Money for Military Veterans

The Tunnel to Towers Run starts Sunday at 8 a.m. at Newport Dunes. A portion of the proceeds will go toward building homes for wounded combat veterans.

The Tunnel to Towers Run will take place this weekend in Newport Beach as part of a nationwide tribute to a fallen New York City Firefighter. The run will also raise money to build homes for wounded combat veterans and other military families.

The Tunnel to Towers 5K Run begins at 8 a.m. Sunday at Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort & Marina in honor of Stephen Siller, 34, an NYC Firefighter who died on Sept. 11, 2001. Siller, 34, perished as he made his way through the Brooklyn Tunnel to the World Trade Center with 60 pounds of gear on his back.

In New York City, the Tunnel to Towers Run allows participants to retrace Siller's fateful footsteps in remembrance of the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on 9/11.
