Public Invited to Celebration of Life for Newport Physician

The community is invited to celebrate the life of Catherine "Kit" Campion-Ritz on Saturday, Oct. 6 at Mariner's Church Community Center in Irvine.

A public celebration of life for Catherine "Kit" Campion-Ritz, a Newport Beach physician who was killed following a cycling crash on Newport Coast Drive, is scheduled for next month, according to Greater Newport Physicians.

The celebration of life service for Campion-Ritz will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6 at 1 p.m. at Mariner's Church Community Center, 5001 Newport Coast Drive in Irvine.

Campion-Ritz was a doctor who treated patients in Newport Beach for close to 30 years. She was killed during a fatal hit-and-run on Sept. 15 as she cycled on Newport Coast Drive with her husband.

Michael Jason Lopez, 39, of Anaheim, was arrested three days later in connection with Campion's death. If convicted, Lopez faces a maximum sentence of eight years in state prison for the deadly hit-and-run crash.

Campion-Ritz, 57, of Irvine is survived by her husband Patrick Ritz, dog Sandy, her mother Corinne Campion, five brothers and sisters and four nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Casa Teresa, Semper Fi FundWounded Warrior Project or St. Kieran Catholic School in El Cajon.
