Paddle Out, Memorial Planned for Newport Beach Lifeguard Ben Carlson

Parking in two sections of town will be restricted to accommodate the services.

There will be two separate memorial services on Sunday, July 13 in honor of Ben Carlson, the Newport Beach lifeguard who died during a rescue 4th of July weekend

The Newport Beach community, Ben's friends and family, and the members of our extended Public Safety family are all invited to attend and participate.

To accommodate the memorial services, no parking zones will be posted:

  • On 20th Street, between Balboa Blvd and W. Oceanfront (the beach), effective midnight to noon
  • On Orange Street, between Seashore Drive and W. Oceanfront (the beach), effective midnight to 10 p.m.
  • Seashore Drive, between the Grant Street and Walnut Street parking lots, effective midnight to 10 p.m.
  • In the Grant Street and Walnut Street parking lots (off of Seashore Drive), effective midnight to 10 p.m.

Maps of the no parking zone areas are posted above.

A memorial Paddle Out will begin promptly at 9 a.m. on the east side of the Newport Beach Pier.  The beach may be impacted with additional crowds in this area from 7:30-11 a.m.

Ben's Celebration of Life will begin promptly at 6:30 pm on the beach at Orange Street in West Newport Beach.  The beach may be impacted with additional crowds in this area from 3:30-10 p.m.
