Bees Cause a Real Sting at Angel Game- Margot Ferron

It was the top of the 3rd inning at Angel Stadium in Anaheim when play was suddenly halted.   Umpires, coaches and players swarmed the infield to discuss the bee situation in right field around 1:40 pm on Sun., Sept. 22, 2013.

The score was tied 1-1 against the Seattle Mariners.  Angels had a man on first and third; #21 Gutierrez was in right field.   We got the buzz from other fans as to what was happening.

It was quite some time before the announcer told the crowd what was happening.  Meanwhile the Kiss Cam went into overtime, the jokes by players were on overload and the bloopers of plays kept the video screen running.   They did everything, but let the Rally monkey loose.  No joke.  Some fans left.

Eventually a grounds keeper with an orange, Gatorade bucket and a broom came out to right field and started swatting.   Next a man with a brown box came out.   Nothing seemed to appease the bees….so the guy with the brown box ended up in center field with a ladder in the trees.   He was moving from tree to tree.  Where are the “buzz-ards?”

This entire time there was no communications on the loud speaker with the fans. We were laughing relentlessly, what are they going to do next, bring out the honey?  Apparently, they did.  Play resumed at 2:02 pm with the man still in the trees.   Just 10 minutes later they delayed the game again.

Now a guy with a fire extinguisher came out and sprayed them with carbon dioxide.    Wham! Bam!  We gasped.   They had to have killed them.

Bee-fittingly it was Fan Appreciation Day.   All we could do was make jokes, laugh and bee happy!  Whose going to bee-lieve this.
