Blog: Stop Supporting Animal Cruelty in Newport Beach

Russo’s owner Dan DiGiacomo - convicted criminal of animal cruelty- selling puppy mill dogs for 30 years under FRAUD. Russo’s “Champion Breeder”- Scientific Researcher on Dogs!

Newport Beach, did you know when you support the sales of pet store puppies and kittens --like the ones sold at Russo's--you are supporting an industry of federal cruelty exploited by the Department of Agriculture?

Farming practices of USDA breeders were found in federal court to violate Federal Law of the United States. The industry-wide violations included implementing torturous factory farming practices on canines, treating them as if they were chickens and making them produce an unlimited supply of pet store puppies across the nation.

All pet store puppies must come from USDA breeders by law. USDA breeding practices put profit over care of the dogs violating the already scarce survival standards of “The Animal Welfare Act”. The AWA is cruel and minimally requires only adequate food, shelter from elements that kill, clean water and medical care for injury or disease.

Pet stores are the PUPPY MILL INDUSTRY. Forty percent of the puppies ordered for stock, by pet store owners and shipped from Midwest Puppy mills, die before they ever reach the pet store. FACT. They die under stress, being too young, packed in crates, and neglected in transport dying a terrorizing, helpless death, of dehydration and hypoglycemia. These are the parents of all pet store puppies,  including every puppy in Russo’s. Canines suffering horrific cruelty for pet store puppies to be sold exclusively under FRAUD.

USDA Breeders are deemed “inhumane” and “torturous” in a federal court of law, violating the Federal Laws of the United States of America.  No reputable breeder ever sells to pet stores, EVER!  A reputable breeder would never sell to a convicted criminal of animal cruelty, such as Russo’s owner, Dan DiGiacomo.

The nation is in a CANINE CRISIS with some of us rushing to the aide of puppy mill breeding dogs. Drafting legislation, implementing corporate and city wide bans (such as Irvine and the Irvine Company) are some of the humane efforts easing mass federal cruelty and canine murder in our nation's puppy mills.

STOP supporting animal cruelty Newport Beach!

Join compassionate cities of integrity across the nation. Ban the sales of industry canine torture and return just federal rights to man’s best friend.

Newport Beach must do the right thing - it's a matter of time. Irvine, Dana Point and soon Laguna Beach adding to a growing list of cities that have gone humane in Orange County. We do not want any part of an industry that causes so many deaths and wastes our tax dollars.

Well after reading all reviews on the web ie: yelp, yellowpages etc. all were complaints. These weren't bleeding hearts, these are people who have wanted to purchase or made a purchase from this franchise. Russo's is not a legit company who takes care of their animals. I went in after seeing lovebirds in the window. Walked up to the cage and almost threw up. The birds were walking on the floor of the cage on WET bird poo. The cage had not been cleaned in forever. It smelled horrible. The poor birds beaks were so overgrown they could barely eat. They had bald spots where they picked each other or themselves. There was a conure in the same condition but he couldn't get up on a perch he was so sick. His cage was hidden on a shelf in the corner so the patrons couldn't see him. I went to find the manager, walked by the puppies and saw a weimreiner (sp?) puppy who was so sick, shallow breathing, tongue out and goopy eyes. All this manager (she) could say was "yes we are aware". An employee, cannot give his name out, told me the only reason he works there is so he can try to help the poor animals that come in sick. He stated they are usually all sick when they arrive. He also stated that after working at Russo's he will never purchase another animal again. He will always rescue. Bottomline, the City of Newport is allowing this to take place.

When will people do the RIGHT thing and STOP buying live animals from the pet stores? How can anyone say at this point that he/she didn't know that the dogs that come from puppy mills are not treated humanely? WAKE UP, people...where's your conscience! RUSSO'S is just about cruelty...STOP supporting the store!!! If you stop shopping, it will close! It's just common sense. ADOPT, DON'T SHOP!!! Be part of the solution...NOT the problem!
Linda Szymoniak March 10, 2012 at 05:45 AM
Don't shop - adopt! Save a life! Puppy mills should ALL be closed down!

Cities all around you are doing the right thing. Don't embarrass yourself, Newport Beach!
L Fleming March 10, 2012 at 05:36 PM
It is time to make some NOISE!!! This is no doubt wrong!!! Why do people, especially government officials that can make changes, turn a blind eye! Why do you allow animal cruelty!! GOOGLE PUPPY MILLS!!! Check out the horror and conditions these innocent animals live. People need to know where that cute puppy came from!! While these pups are being sold in stores, the parents are suffering at the hands of BLOOD MONEY!!!! Don't support these people!!!! Thousands of beautiful loving dogs and cats are murdered daily in shelters!!! Their only crime is being HOMELESS!!!! Make a moral decision the next time you see that puppy in the window! Anyone running a dog farm should be shut down! It is animal cruelty any way you look at it!!! When you are in a store look into that pups eyes and remember where his parents are!!!! ADOPT DON'T SHOP!

Russo's will never be able to withstand our winning formula of investigations, exposure in the press of the facts and a sustained campaign by local activists. The anti-puppy mill movement is about to rain down the truth on Russo's an Newport Beach. Of course, we are open to discussing the possibility of them going humane. They have no alternative and we have never failed. NB elected officials please note that Americans hate puppy mills, Republicans and Democrats alike. It's something we can all agree on. We love our pets and we don't want local retailers getting away with selling inhumanely bred animals in this beautiful city. Carole Davis, Companion Animal Protection Society

sad that NB is still not on-board with banning pet stores that sell puppies from puppy mills. I suppose it is because so many are uninformed. Or is it selfishness?

It is a city council with a wealth of Russo's puppy mill evidence and horrific breeders that is willing to sacrifice their own constituents as lambs to consumer fraud slaughter to aide business interests of a convicted criminal of animal cruelty forcing our city into INVESTORS AND SUPPORTERS of puppy mill murder and death......we are pulling the big guns because this will no longer be tolerated when it is Newport Families paying the price financial and emotionally with sick and dead dogs that I have purchase case files of....STOP THE ANIMAL CRUELTY NEWPORT BEACH!
