Blog: Dirty Dog Dealing in Newport Beach

In the shadowy world of puppy mills, the life of a companion animal at the hands of USDA Class-B Dog and Cat dealers is harsh and unrelenting.

In the shadowy world of puppy mills, the life of a companion animal at the hands of USDA Class-B Dog and Cat dealers is harsh and unrelenting.

Parents of Newport Beach pet store puppies suffer from crowded unsanitary conditions without adequate food, necessary water and rarely receive any veterinary care.

Dan Digiacomo, owner of Russo's Pet Experience, is a cruel criminal. He refers to his dealers as “breeders” and lists them on the cages inside his Fashion Island store. Digiacomo's dealers include Brule Creek, Sanjon, Rainbow and Trailane Kennels which are all B-Dealers in the Midwest Puppy Mill Industry.

(Note: The U.S. Department of Agriculture defines Class B License as, “Dealers are individuals who sell regulated animals for research, exhibition or as pets in wholesale channels.”)

Russo’s Commercial bred puppies are not bred by “responsible breeders” but instead by the inhumane puppy mill industry.

(Note: The ASPCA defines “responsible breeders” as "taking lifetime responsibility for the animals they have bred.”

Again I reiterate that Russo’s Pets does not use responsible breeders.

The store's health warranty is nothing more than minimum law mandated requirements by the State of California that must be adhered in the legal sale of live animals and DOES NOT REQUIRE COVERING common puppy mill parasites such as Parvo or Giardia, which Russo’s does not cover.

Russo’s Pets store guarantee is “our pets come from Champion Breeders, our breeders facilities are immaculate,” however the U.S. Government highly disagrees.

Legal USDA Inspection reports for Trailane Kennels and Reality of B-Dealers are the featured video for this article, please take a few moments to watch it. Inspectors recorded legal reports of severe Federal Law AWA Violations of horrific and torturous living conditions Newport puppy parents suffer supported by Newport Beach Council and funded by Russo’s in Trailane Kennels Puppy Mill.

Russo’s B-Dealer, Jerry Nelson of Trailane Kennels, is a scientific researcher on live canines whose research facility is also Trailane Kennels. Nelson both breeds and brokers commercial animals, has multiple and repeat Federal Law Violations of the “Animal Welfare Act” that include food caked with mold, no adequate water and water coated with grime. The animals live in cages consisting of broken chicken wire, injurious to dogs resulting in cages collection of bodily debris in their harm.

In May 2010, the USDA released an Internal Audit Report of Commercial Breeders described as “scathing” by Washington D.C. , it shocked the nation. I urge you to please take time to view the report.

Newport Beach has enough wonderful citizens that need to be informed...there is enough money to help shelter animals find homes..rather than have the kill rates go up (as they did in 2011)....I hope that we can work together to change the lives of animals.

Newport Beach is surrounded by cities that have done the right thing and banned puppy mill outlets. It's time Newport Beach evolve and do likewise. To allow this trafficking in misery is unconscionable.

Hard to believe a pet store can be supported by patrons that operates in these ways. If the law can't protect these pets maybe the people will protect the pets by avoiding pet stores that operate like this. Are there any alternative pet stores that you recommend?
