Fast Food kudos

A commentary on Fast Food dining vs restaurant dining in Newport Beach.

As a health enthusiast, one might wonder why I chose El Pollo Loco's menu over Gulfstream's menu the other night.  No, it wasn't for convenience - we were actually closer to Gulfstream's when we made the detour to El Pollo Loco (@Bristol & Birch).   It was the same reason I now find myself going to the web (as time permits) to search menus before I eat out.  Nutritional data. The chains are subject to a law requiring the information be made available. Gulfstream, on the other, while owned by the same owners of other restaurants in the area, are not officially a chain, hence they escape that requirement.  But guess what?  Conscientious diners like us are opting for the Chicken Salad at El Pollo Loco, where I know what the calorie count is.  An added (surprise) bonus is that the chicken is so good, I skip the dressing.  Now, we actually seek out El Pollo Loco locations when we are out and about and want to grab a bite to eat without piling on hidden calories.

Never thought I'd see the day that I'd opt for a fast food restaurant over a "normal" one, but that day has come.  Can hardly wait for the "non-chain" restaurants to catch up, so I can expand my dining experience to bring them back into the fold. Kudos to Wahoo, McDonalds, Taco Bell, PF Changs and all the others that publish nutritional information, for helping us make the choices that fit our lifestyles.
