Newport Girl Named Finalist in Singing Competition

Ten-year-old Brooke Besikof sings her heart out to win the SOCAL ICON competition.

She's been singing her heart for the last few months competing against hundred of young singers from across the state, now a girl from Newport Beach is on her way to the finals of the SOCAL ICON singing competition.

Brooke Besikof, 10, was recently named one of the 21 finalists in the sixth annual SOCAL ICON solo vocal competition for singers ages 7-18. Besikof auditioned in June singing acapella for judges. During semifinals in July Besikof sang before a live theater audience and she will sing once again in the finals on Saturday, Aug. 31 at The Margaret A. Webb Theater in Santa Ana.

"My name was called and I was so surprised and honored to be chosen," Besikof said. "I will be singing Temporary Home by Carrie Underwood my favorite country singer. The song is important to me because I started a charity with my friend Alyssa Antoci, called JUST A LITTLE CLOTH, to help other girls my age who may be struggling through hard times. The song "Temporary Home"  is all about how no matter what tough time you are facing, it is temporary and you can get through any tough time if you keep your head up and believe anything is possible."
