Newport Couple Wins Spirit of St. Joseph Award

A Newport Beach couple was recently honored for their generous donations during St. Joseph Hospital's annual fundraising gala, officials announced.

Held at Newport's Balboa Bay Resort, Celebration 2013 was held on Oct. 19 and made hospital history when it raised more than $420,000 for the hospital’s new Emergency Care Center. During the celebration Jim and Betsy Hawkins, residents of Newport Beach, were honored with the annual Spirit of St. Joseph Award. According to officials, the award honors donors who embody the spirit of St. Joseph in their generous works.

“This new concept in emergency care will help us treat more patients, more quickly yet maintain the outstanding quality of care that St. Joseph Hospital is known for,” said James Pierog, MD, emergency care physician and celebration co-chair. “The community’s support will guarantee the residents of Orange County and the patients of St. Joseph Hospital, the best healthcare available when they need it, especially in an emergency.”
