Earth Day at the Bay

The Newport Bay Conservancy in partnership with Orange County Parks presents the 24th Annual Earth Day at the Bay.  Earth Day is a time when we can all reflect on the importance of our natural surroundings and how we can preserve and protect them.  This is a FREE, family friendly event.

Booths will include environmental organizations such as Sea and Sage Audubon society, the Environmental Nature Center, the Wetlands and Wildlife Care Center, the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, Surfrider Foundation, Friends of Harbors, Beaches and Parks, and the American Cetacean Society.  The City of Newport Beach Marine Protection Agency along with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife will emphasize protection of our tidepools and Marine Protection Areas.  The Orange County Bird of Prey Center will display live raptors and emphasize their positive effect on the local environment as will Reptile Rescue of Orange County.  The California Coastal Commission will display and sell native plants.

The festival will include booths emphasizing water quality and recycling.  Booths include the Orange County Health Care Agency Water Quality Laboratory, The Irvine Ranch Water District, and Orange County Used Oil Recycling Program.  Free electronic recycling will be provided courtesy of All Green Electronics Recycling.

There will be several children's activities including arts and crafts hosted by Inside the Outdoors, face painting, puppet shows, and a scavenger hunt with prizes for all who participate.  The Newport Beach Film Festival will present 9 short environmental films beginning at 11:00 a.m. and repeating at 1:00 p.m.  There is no charge for these film showings.  Danny Maika will be preforming live music throughout the day.

Participate in the Opportunity Drawing for great prizes from local merchants all benefiting the Newport Bay Conservancy.   Food will be available from The Burnt Truck, Tamarindo and Front Porch Pops and souvenir t-shirts will be on hand for purchase.
