Blog: Sherman Gardens Plant of the Week

Quick grab your camera....the iridescent blue flowers are emerging on our huge Echium.

Coming into full bloom is the magnificent Pride of Madeira, Echium candicans.

This show stopper is endemic to the Madeira Islands of the Mediterranean which means this plant isn't found growing naturally anywhere else in the world! However, it has been in cultivation for some time now.

The specimen in Sherman Gardens is actually a variegated cultivar called "Star of Madeira". This plant is great for California gardens; full sun, low water, and little maintenance.

Come by Sherman Gardens and check out the iridescent blue flowers of our gigantic plant. Our Echium is so big it probably trumps your new Fiat.
