Blog: Fuchsia, Sherman Gardens Plant of the Week

Come enjoy fuchsias at Sherman Gardens first annual Fuchsia Festival today, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This is the time of year when Sherman Gardens' extensive fuchsia collection comes into full bloom.

These delicate flowers are not only bountiful and colorful, but Corona del Mar just happens to be perfectly nestled into the "Fuchsia Belt" of California. Fuchsias thrive in a unique environment of humid coastal fog and moderate temperatures.

Live further inland? Not to worry, you're sure to find a micro-climate in your garden to begin your collection. Fuchsias have been hybridized over the years and range in growth habit and flower color. At Sherman Gardens we have everything between the wild Bolivian Fuchsia with long tubular crimson flowers and  tall arching branches to the tiny Fuchsia thymifolia with flowers so small you could train it into a bonsai! Our collection also hosts over 50 fuchsias in hanging baskets filling the Tea Garden with pink confetti of blossoms.
