'Wheel of Fortune' Spins Tonight for Newport Beach Woman

It's a dream come true for teacher Blair Campbell, who competes on the show at 7:30 p.m. on KABC.

As a little girl, Blair Campbell dreamed of putting her love for words to use on Wheel of Fortune, and tonight her wish comes true.

Campbell, 30, is a third-grade teacher at Beechwood School in Fullerton who has always watched the game show. At 7:30 p.m., she trades her seat on the couch for a slot behind the big wheel.

"As a kid I always watched Wheel of Fortune because my grandfather loved the show," Campbell explained. "I've been watching ever since and when I turned 18 I made it my goal to get on the show."

Campbell applied online for the show a few times and last year finally got the call that she had been cast. On the day of taping, Campbell was sick with a high fever, so she pushed her participation back a few months. Finally in July, she made it to the taping and spun the wheel.

"It was a dream come true," she said. "But let me say you can be super great with word puzzles and a really smart player on your couch, but when you spin the wheel, being lucky is a huge part of it."

To prepare, Campbell practiced Wheel of Fortune games on Wii, apps on Facebook, on her iPad and through fill-in-the-blank puzzles emailed from friends. Campbell will be watching the show tonight with her family and friends. She said her only regret, is not announcing the upcoming birth of her first child -- a boy -- who will make his debut in February.

"I wish I would have announced my pregnancy on the show, that would have been great. I was so nervous that I would hurt the baby when I was bending down and spinning the wheel," Campbell joked.  "I had such a great time."
