3.5 Quake Shakes Orange County

The temblor struck early Thursday. No injuries were reported.

A 3.5-magnitude quake hit coastal Orange County today, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake struck at a depth of 6.8 miles at 2:56 a.m.; its epicenter was four miles east of Newport Beach and four miles south-southwest of Irvine, according to the computer-generated report.

Residents as far inland as Tustin, La Palma, Fullerton and Brea reported feeling the quake as did people up and down the coast. No significant incidents were reported.

The USGS website shows hundreds of people in the area reported feeling very light shaking.

"We did not receive any reports or injuries, and there were no significant incidents related to the earthquake this morning," said Kathy Lowe, Newport Beach police spokeswoman.
