If traveling to the south of France has ever piqued your interest, the Newport Beach Sister Association is planning a trip you may want to learn more about.
On Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the Newport Beach Public Library, the Newport Beach Sister City Association will host an informational meeting about an upcoming delegation trip in July to Antibes, France. Cherri Penne-Myers, vice-president of the Antibes Committee of Newport Beach Sister City Association, says the trip will help foster the relationship Newport Beach and Antibes developed almost 23 years ago.
"It’s a way to meet and learn about other cultures, similarities and differences and maybe have a chance to pick up a little French," Penne-Myers said. "It's the south of France, it's the Riviera and it's beautiful."
The committee hopes to have 20 community members take part in the six to seven day trip to Antibes. The city is located on the Mediterranean, between Nice and Cannes and is best known as the Rose Capital of Europe and the home of the largest yachts in the world.
During the trip to Antibes, community memebers will get to enjoy the south of France, which is known for it’s Jazz à Juan one of the oldest jazz festivals in Europe, participate in a Bastille Day celebration, tour old cities and landmarks and help Newport Beach nurture its relationship with Antibes.
"Creating bonds with people from another country and learning about their cultures is really what it is all about," Penne-Myers said.
Thursday's meeting will be held in the Friends Room at the Newport Beach Public Library, 1000 Avocado Ave. For more information, send an email to email@example.com.
