A section of Newport Bay remains closed to swimming today because of a sewage spill, the Orange County Health Care Agency’s Ocean Water Protection Program reported.

The bay area from Channel Place Park to 41st Street in the west end of Newport Bay were closed Monday after 200 gallons of sewage was spilled, health officials reported. The sewage spill was caused by a line blockage in a private property owner's sewage collection system, according to Larry Honeybourne of the Orange County Health Care Agency.

The bay water area will remain closed until the water quality meets acceptable standards.
