School Board Ranks Athletic Facilities as High Priority

The Newport-Mesa Unified School District's board of trustees would like to see funding spent on sports facilities at local high schools, according to a report in the Daily Pilot.

At the Tuesday night school board meeting, Deputy Supt. Paul Reed told the trustees the district has approximately $20 million in one-time funds and decisions need to be made about how to spend the money, the newspaper reported.

The board ranked 12 capital improvement projects, which were presented by Reed, and after the vote the top priorities included revamping Newport Harbor's Davidson Field, building an aquatics locker room, new football fields and tracks at Corona del Mar High School.

Proposed projects that fell lowest on the priority list were installing air conditioning and security fencing at elementary schools, according to the Daily Pilot's report.
