Save the Date: Reagan Statue Unveiling

The ceremony will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Bonita Canyon Sports Park.

A bronze statue of Ronald Reagan will be unveiled this weekend at Bonita Canyon Sports Park.

The statue—sculpted by local artist Miriam Baker—will be at the forefront of the dedication ceremony, which will be held Sunday at 1 p.m.

Councilman Keith Curry, who said Newport Beach is an ideal place for a statue of the 40th president, is looking forward to seeing the memorial.

Reagan, he said, "was a frequent visitor to Newport Beach, and I am proud that our community will join London and Budapest in recognizing the centennial of his birth with a statue honoring his role in extending freedom to millions."

The Newport Beach City Council authorized the collection of private donations for the memorial earlier this year to mark the 100th anniversary of the Reagan's birth.
