Police Issue Crime Alert for Home Burglaries
Newport Beach police say four overnight burglaries were reported this week.
The Newport Beach Police Department issued a crime alert Friday after receiving reports of home burglaries.
The burglaries took place overnight between Tuesday, June 4 and Wednesday, June 5, according to police.
1300 block of W. Balboa Blvd.
-An unknown suspect reached through an open window and removed an iPhone from the kitchen counter. The victim was home asleep at the time of the crime.
-An unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence through an unlocked front door and removed a wallet, watch, iPod and iPhone from the kitchen and bedroom. The victim was home asleep during the crime.
200 block of East Bay
-An unknown suspect entered the victim’s home through an unlocked window and stole a hat, three cameras, a folding knife, and an iPhone charger.
-An unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence through an open window while the victim slept and stole medication, food, clothing and coins.
Home Security Tips
- Close and lock all doors, windows and garage door. All exterior doors should be equipped with a deadbolt lock, which should always be used have a security strike plate, attached with a minimum of two, three inch screws.
- If you have an alarm, always activate it when you are away.
- Use photo cells or timers to turn both interior and exterior lights on and off.
- If you are going to be out of town, ask a trusted friend or neighbor to check on your home and pick up your mail. Sign-up for a vacation check from the police department at www.nbpd.org.
