O.C. Airport Eyes Mexico Flights

Southwest subsidiary AirTran hopes to begin service from John Wayne to Cabo and Mexico City in June.

John Wayne Airport hopes to launch service to Cabo San Lucas and Mexico City next June, officials announced Sunday.

Southwest Airlines subsidiary AirTran said it would seek government approval for the routes. Fares and flight frequency would be announced later, according to a press release.

"We have been very encouraged by the success of AirTran's existing international service and we look forward to building upon that success," Bob Jordan, executive vice president of Southwest and president of AirTran Airways, said in a statement.

AirTran would fly to and from Mexico out of the airport's new terminal.
