Outage started about 5 a.m. following equipment problems. Southern California Edison reports most power should be restored by 9:30 a.m.

A power outage early today knocked out power to 2,142 Newport Beach customers, but most of the power is back up and running, Southern California Edison reported.

The outage started at about 5:10 a.m. following a failed underground cable on Pacific View Drive, according to Edison spokeswoman Nancy Rodriguez Casanova. More than 2,000 customers in the area of Bonita Canyon, San Joaquin Hills Road, MacArthur Boulevard and Ford Road were without power this morning, but most of the power was restored about 6:19 a.m.

As of 10 a.m., Casanova said about 282 customers remained without power. All customers should have power restored by 6:30 p.m.
