Newport Mom Pens College-Readiness Book

Cindy Muchnick says her new book, The Everything College Checklist, is a handbook crafted to help students start their college career.

High school seniors across the country are getting ready to embark on the next chapter of their lives, and a Newport Beach mom wants to make sure they have all the skills they need to be successful at their college campuses.

Cindy Muchnick, a mom of four, said her book The Everything College Checklist Book, is a guide to help kids and their parents transition from high school to college life. The 13-chapter book covers several topics including how to write a good research paper, tips for finding a roommate, effective ways to take notes, the importance of internships, ways to find scholarships and grants and a lot of other helpful reminders.

"Kids still need some instructions even when they are off to college," Muchnick explained. "The book is small, it's not intimidating and is easy to read. I encourage anyone who reads to highlight the important things and refer back to it when they need a reminder of what to do."

The handbook also includes different lists where students can jot down notes to help them stay organized, including a budget list to keep track of expenses and a list of questions designed to help students discover their interests.

"They can stick it in their backpack, and pull it out when they need some guidance on what they should be doing," Muchnick added. "The first year of college is very important, and I hope this book can help students be successful."

Muchnick will be signing copies of her book and hosting a discussion on Saturday, May 18, 12 at noon at Barnes and Noble located at 901 B South Coast Drive at Metro Pointe in Costa Mesa.
