More Road Work Chokes PCH Traffic

The project closes down a westbound lane on part of Coast Highway.

Road crews have begun work on Coast Highway in Newport Beach that might add a few more minutes to motorists' drive times.

The project began Monday and involves the Orange County Sanitation District's Bitter Point Pump Station. Construction has closed down one westbound lane on Coast Highway, west of Superior Avenue and east of Prospect Street. The closure will remain in effect through February, but the sidewalk and bike lane will remain open.

OCSD officials say the construction work is needed to complete the sewer connections to the new pump station currently under construction. A manhole must also be constructed to allow access for future maintenance.

In addition, another OCSD project and a Southern California Edison project ——have been underway since the beginning of the month.
