Inspectors Find Safety Issues at Hoag Hospital

The hospital has a May 16 deadline set by federal regulators to correct problems found early this year.

A January inspection of Hoag Hospital in Newport Beach by federal regulators turned up deficiencies in six areas, the Orange County Register reported. The hospital has developed a plan to correct the problems by May 16.

Inspectors from the Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services found areas that did not meet federal standards, including patient privacy and infection control.

“Hoag’s first priority is always the safety and satisfaction of our patients,” said Dr. Jack Cox, senior vice president and chief quality officer. “We took the issues that CMS pointed out to us very seriously. We corrected what we could immediately. We put teams on board to correct the other issues.”

A separate inspection of Hoag Orthopedic Institute in Irvine found vaccines and medications stored at improper temperatures, resulting in a finding of immediate jeopardy that was lifted the next day.
