Mayor Accepts Donation to Library

The Friends of the Library donates a $255,000 check to benefit programs at the Newport Beach Public Library.

The Newport Beach Public Library was presented with a $255,000 check from the Friends of the Library at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

The donation check was presented to the City Council by Cynthia Cowell, director of library services, and Jan Oates, the president of the Friends of the Library.

“That’s a cool quarter of a million bucks,” Cowell told the City Council. "Thanks friends for the very generous gift and their support for our children''s summer reading program, a lot of book and material purchases and the list goes on and on."

The Friends of the Library is made up of 130 volunteers. Oates said they work hard to prize sell books and generate donations from the community.
