Hoag Hospital Irvine was recently awarded a designation to start receiving patients suffering a heart attack via ambulance, the hospital announced.
In a released statement, hospital officials said Hoag Hospital Irvine was designated as a Cardiovascular Receiving Center effective Monday, July 1 following "a rigorous review process" by the Orange County Emergency Medical Services. Robert Braithwaite, Hoag's president and CEO, said the hospital's new status is reflective of Hoag's reputation as a stellar medical provider of heart and vascular care in Orange County.
“This is something we’ve been working toward since we opened Hoag Hospital Irvine in September 2010, and is something the Irvine community has wanted,” Braithwaite said in a released statement.
Cardiac Receiving Centers like Hoag Hospital Irvine and Newport Beach are equipped with an emergency department, cardiac cath lab, cardiologists on staff and a cardiovascular surgeon who work together to help preserve a patient’s heart within 90 minutes of when the patient starts feeling chest pain, hospital officials reported.

Hoag Hospital Irvine’s CVRC designation is effective through June 30, 2014.
