Free Bus Rides to Fire Ring Meeting

The South Coast Air Quality Management District meets Friday in Diamond Bar to vote on the future of the beachside fire rings. The meeting starts at 9 a.m

Free bus rides are being offered by the Huntington Beach Marketing and Visitors Bureau to 50 people who want to attend Friday's fire ring meeting at the South Coast Air Quality Management District in Diamond Bar.

According to an event memo, the buses will pick up at Newport Beach's Old City Hall, 3300 Newport Blvd., and will head to AQMD's Headquarters in Diamond Bar at 7:15 a.m. Lunch will be provided to those returning on the bus after the meeting. AQMD board members are scheduled to vote on potential changes to Rule 444 that could allow each city to remove its fire rings.

The AQMD originally proposed a ban on all fire rings in Orange and Los Angeles counties.

"In order to show support for the fire ring tradition that has sparked countless memories over the last six decades, we want you to be present at this vote. Your attendance will be a significant factor in saving the beach bonfires," the event memo stated.

To reserve a spot on the bus from Newport Beach, visit savethebonfiresnewport.eventbrite.com/. To reserve a spot on the bus leaving from Huntington Beach City Hall, visit savethebonfires.eventbrite.com/. Bus riders can park for free in both City Hall parking lots.

The AQMD meeting will be held at 21865 Copley Dr. in Diamond Bar.
