Celebrate Fourth of July in Newport

The Bangles, a red, white and blue yacht parade, fireworks and more are expected to attract thousands to the city on Independence Day.

The city of Newport Beach will be full of extravaganzas on the Fourth of July. Here is a list of the events taking place on Independence Day.

: The resort will host the Newport Beach Independence Day on the Bay Two-Day Celebration of America. The Dunes will open at 7 a.m. with the music festival beginning at 12 p.m. and culminate with a fireworks show at 9 p.m., 1131 Back Bay Dr. The Fourth of July celebration will feature iconic girl-rock band The Bangles whose hits include “Walk Like an Egyptian” and “Manic Monday." The group will take the stage at 7:15 p.m.

The two-day festival will also feature live performances by top tribute bands including Led Zeppagain, Steely Jam and Knyght Ryder. Newport Dunes will also provide additional festivities including carnival games, crafts, face painting and barbeques. On Thursday, July 5, the music festival will resume at 3:00 p.m. and will showcase 12 food trucks who will compete for a $1,000 grand prize, with the last band ending the festival at 9:00 p.m.

Admission to the park on Wednesday is $60 per car and includes general admission for the concert area. VIP concert tickets are available for $75 per person and include VIP parking, drink tickets and food in a premium concert seating area. General admission concert tickets will be available for $20 per person for walk-ins. On Thursday, Dunes general admission will be $25 per car including general admission for the concert area. For guests wishing to purchase a two-day car pass, the cost is $85 and includes general admission to the concert area both days.  Newport Harbor Boat Parade: The American Legion Yacht Club presents the Old Glory Boat Parade in Newport Harbor at 1 p.m. Participating yachts will be decorated with patriotic flair and admission is free. “Every year you are in for a patriotic treat, as all kinds of boats try to outshine each other, waiting for the loudest ovations from onlookers,” said Jon Reynolds, the club's staff commodore. For information and entry forms for the Old Glory Boat Parade call the American Legion Newport Harbor Post office at 949-673-5070.

Pancake Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner: Before and after the boat parade on the Fourth of July, at the American Legion Post 291, a pancake breakfast will be served from 7 - 11 a.m. by volunteers for a $10 donation. BBQ Lunch and dinner will be served at noon until 4 p.m. for a $10 donation, 215 East 15th Street Newport Beach.

Newport Peninsula Bike Parade & Community Festival: The 2nd annual 4th of July is for Families will begin at 9 a.m. on the Peninsula with a bike and dog parade at 38th Street Park. The parade will travel down Balboa Boulevard to Channel Place Park where a free festival will take place from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Parade participants are encouraged to decorate bikes, scooters, wagons and strollers and to put dogs on a leash. The event will include carnival games, giant slides, bounce houses, arts, crafts and food. For more information on this, call 949-644-3151. 

Independence Day Parade Mariners Park: The 40th Annual Parade will take place at Mariners Park followed by games and activities, 1300 Irvine Ave. Proceeds from the event support Mariners Elementary School and is for all ages. The parade will begin at the corner of Commodore and Mariners Drive at 10:30 a.m. The celebration will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the park.
