Fancy Nancy Illustrator Coming to Newport Library

Children are encouraged to dress in their fanciest clothes in honor of a special program Sunday with Fancy Nancy Illustrator Robin Preiss Glasser.

The illustrator of the popular children's series, Fancy Nancy, will make a special appearance Sunday at the Central Library in Newport Beach.

Robin Preiss Glasser, who was recently named Illustrator of the Year by the Children's Book Council for her book "Fancy Nancy and the Mermaid," will be hosting a children's presentation, program and book signing on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.

Along with Fancy Nancy, Glasser -- who lives in Irvine -- has also illustrated more than 12 children's books including “America: A Patriotic Primer,” “A is for Abigail,” “Our Fifty States” by Lynne Cheney and “Tea for Ruby” by Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York.

Children are encouraged to dress “fancy” for Sunday's program at the library and must be accompanied by an adult. The event is free, but there is a suggested $10 donation.

Schedule: Doors open at 12:30 p.m.; 1 - 2 p.m. program; 2 - 3 p.m. reception and book signing

The Central Library is located at 1000 Avocado Ave. in Newport Beach.
