More Lane Closures This Week Along PCH

Road work will be completed at the beginning of December.

Lane closures will be in effect this week along Pacific Coast Highway in Newport Beach as the Orange County Sanitation District works on completing its Rocky Point Pump Station project.

This week, construction will reduce traffic along West Coast Highway between Tustin Avenue and the Balboa Bay Club entrance to one eastbound lane and two westbound lanes. The week after Thanksgiving, traffic will be reduced to two eastbound lanes and one westbound lane, according to Daisy Covarrubias, the OCSD's construction liaison.

"We are moving along well this week. Although there will be some closures, there will be no street work whatsoever during the week of Thanksgiving because we don't want to impact traffic during the holiday," Covarrubias said.

The project -- which will link the newly constructed pump station to existing force mains that send waste to the sanitation district's Huntington Beach treatment plant-- is expected to be completed by the first week of December. Construction will be done around the clock, but the noisiest work will take place daily between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to minimize disturbance to nearby residents.

Alternate travel routes are highly recommended to avoid delays. Street parking and left-hand turns might be restricted, but sidewalks will remain open.
