Update: Two Trees Fall on Homes, Cars in Newport Beach

Just last month, another tree fell on a passing motorist, killing her.

Two trees fell on homes and smashed four cars in different sections of Newport Beach today, but no injuries were reported, police said.

The first incident was reported about 1:25 p.m. when a large euclyptus tree fell in the area of Fourth Street and Goldenrod Avenue, according to the Newport Beach Police Department.

Crews began the tree removal process immediately after the incident.  The damage to the homes appears to be minimal, police said.

Police said it was too early to determine if the rain caused the trees to fall.

Last month, a eucalyptus fell onto a passing car on a Costa Mesa street, crushing the vehicle and killing the driver. The tragedy prompted Newport Beach to remove more than 100 eucalyptus from the area at the Irvine Avenue median between Westcliff/17th Street and Dover Drive.
