Councilwoman Receives Prank Fire Ring Call

Councilwoman Nancy Gardner recently received an early morning phone call about the contentious beachside fire rings from Assemblyman Allan Mansoor, seemingly by accident, according to a report in Corona del Mar Today.

Mansoor, who has lent his support to the traditional beachside fire rings, had sent a recorded message out to constituents before the South Coast Air Quality Management District meeting on July 12 where the board voted on new rules for fire rings in Orange and Los Angeles counties, the website reported.

Gardner apparently received Mansoor's pre-recorded phone call at 2 a.m. and thought it was someone calling about an emergency. Mansoor told CDM Today someone may have recorded his pre-recorded phone call, and then used it to prank Gardner.

“We’ll check with the people who did the calls for us, but we didn’t have anything scheduled to go out and certainly not at 2 a.m.,” Mansoor told Corona del Mar Today. “That would be a good way to be get people against you.”
