About 250, firemen, friends and family gathered Saturday morning at St. Andrews Church in Newport Beach to grieve and celebrate the two local firemen who lost their lives in the Yarnell Hill Fire in Arizona .

Grant McKee's football coach, Kirk Norton, remembered him as a bright and happy kid.

"I met Grant McKee as a team player and he went out as a team player," Norton said. "He was my hero not because he fought fires but because he persevered through adversity throughout his life; I will really miss him."

Scott McKee spoke through tears about his son, Grant and nephew Robert, and their courage and integrity.

"Both would help out anybody here without asking anything in return; those are the type of guys they are."

Sister of Robert Caldwell and cousin of Grant McKee, Taylor Caldwell, shared memories of both boys' generosity and bravery, and in closing she read a quote from her brother, Robert, "I'd rather die in my boots than live in a suit."
