The Newport Beach Central Library will close for about two weeks as crews work on the library expansion project.
The Central Library will be closed between Saturday, March 16, through Sunday, March 31. During the closure, crews will dismantle walls, install temporary partitions, paint, replace ceiling tile, reinstall shelves and stage new furniture and fixtures.
Cynthia Cowell, library services director, said the work "should be the last major closure" before completion of the project, which is expected to be done sometime between April 15 and May 3.
Customers will have access to the Book Return outside the Central Library and will be able to direct holds to branch locations or pick them up at the front entrance of the Central Library from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. March 19-22 and March 25-29.
NBPL Foundation programs scheduled in the Friends Meeting Room during the closure period will be held as scheduled despite the closure. Attendees should enter through the Bamboo Courtyard entrance to the Central Library.
The Newport Beach Central Library is located at 1000 Avocado Ave. The Balboa, Corona del Mar and Mariners Branch Libraries will be open regular hours during the closure of the Central Library. All locations will be closed on Easter Sunday, March 31.
Hours and locations of the branches can be found on the website at newportbeachlibrary.org. For more information about the library's closure, call 949-717-3801.
