Car Snaps Tree in Half After High-Speed Crash

The fire department called in the Urban Search and Rescue team to help extricate an unconscious man from the car. A female passenger was conscious and talking while she was removed from the car.

Two people were hurt Sunday morning when their older model Jaguar became wrapped around a tree in Costa Mesa, a deputy chief said.

The accident occurred at 12:36 a.m. on Susan Street near Sunflower Avenue, , Deputy Chief Fred Seguin said.

The fire department called in the Urban Search and Rescue team to help extricate an unconscious man from the car, Seguin said. A female passenger was conscious and talking while she was removed from the car, he said. Both were transported to hospitals for treatment, Seguin said.

"Due to the extent of damage to the car and the upper part of the tree, (which was snapped in half), speed played a role, " Seguin speculated.
