Bluth's Frozen Banana Stand Headed to Balboa Island

"Arrested Development's" Bluth's Original Frozen Banana Stand will arrive on Balboa Island Sunday, June 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Fans have seen it on "Arrested Development," and this weekend they can see Bluth's Original Frozen Banana Stand in person as it makes a stop on Balboa Island for the final leg of its world tour.

The banana stand has been on tour promoting the TV show's fourth season, making stops in London, Los Angeles and New York. There were no original plans to bring it to Newport Beach -- it's home in the show-- until a petition surfaced on Change.org garnering more than 500 signatures and the support of Mayor Keith Curry.

"Yes it's true," Curry said Friday. "I received a call from Netflix earlier this week after an interview I did on public radio encouraging them to come to Newport ."

Fans will be able to visit the banana stand at the 20th annual Balboa Island Parade on Sunday, June 2 from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., according to a news release from Visit Newport Beach Inc. It will be located on Marine Avenue near the fire department.

“Newport Beach is the home of the frozen banana and we welcome Netflix to the city,”  Curry said.

On Arrested Development Bluth's Original Frozen Banana Stand is located on Balboa Island. The TV show was created by Mitchell Hurwitz, who grew up in Newport Beach, and featured the banana stand in the series as a tribute to his hometown.

“There couldn’t be a better time to celebrate the frozen banana than during the 20th annual Balboa Island Parade, with thousands of homeowners, locals, and guests who love Balboa Island,"  Gary Sherwin, president of Visit Newport Beach Inc., said.

Frozen bananas are believed to have been sold first by businessman Don Phillips who opened a banana stand in Newport Beach about 75 years ago, according to Visit Newport Beach Inc. officials.
