An Emergency-Alert Test, a Cancer Fundraiser, a Visit with the Mayor

The five things you need to know for May 6.

1. Today at noon, the city will conduct the Outdoor Emergency Notification System test. For details, read our story here.

2. Don't forget! Today's Battle of the Bay between Corona del Mar and Newport Harbor high schools' boys volleyball teams will help raise money for Orange County native Liz Lord, who is battling brain cancer. Read our story for more details here.

3. Tomorrow, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Mayor Michael Henn will be at the Community Youth Center in Corona del Mar to meet and talk with community members. Residents are encouraged to stop by to ask questions, make suggestions and discuss city issues. The center is at 3000 Fifth Ave., Corona del Mar. Get more information here.

4. Student nominations are still being accepted for the Newport-Mesa Unified School District's Starfish Awards. The awards were created to recognize students who have made a difference in the community. Nominations are due by Monday, May 16. You can find the nomination form here.

5. Today will be mostly sunny, with highs in the upper 70s, according to the National Weather Service.
