5 Things You Need to Know Today: May 3

A garden tour, an upcoming PTA meeting and a visit with the mayor.

1. Today, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Sherman Library Garden Volunteer Association is holding its 15th annual Garden Tour. Guests will tour seven private local gardens and Sherman Library's exclusive collection of early American plein-air art.  Tickets are $40 for members and $50 for non-members. Purchase tickets by calling 949-673-2261.

2. The Corona del Mar High School PTA will meet tomorrow, at 8:30 a.m., in the school's library.

3. Mark your calendar! On Saturday, May 7, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Mayor Michael Henn will be at the Community Youth Center in Corona del Mar to meet and talk with community members. Residents are encouraged to stop by to ask questions, make suggestions and discuss city issues. The center is at 3000 Fifth Ave., Corona del Mar. Get more information here.

4. The Corona del Mar High School PTA will award $600 scholarships to 15 graduating seniors. The scholarships reward and encourage good students who have proven involvement in meaningful extracurricular activities, made positive contributions to the school and community and have shown diligence and/or creativity in achieving academic and/or personal goals, ethical and moral behavior and development of a vision for the future. A 2.5 GPA is required but is not the leading criterion. Applications are available in the counseling office today and must be returned there by May 13 at 1:30 p.m.

5. Today will be sunny, with highs in the low 80s, according to the National Weather Service.
