5 Things You Need to Know Today: May 2

A bike safety meeting, a garden tour and a volunteer opportunity.

1. The Newport Beach Citizens Bicycle Safety Committee will meet today from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Newport Beach Central Library, 1000 Avocado Ave. Read the agenda here

2. The Sherman Library Garden Volunteer Association will give its 15th annual Garden Tour tomorrow, May 3, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Guests will tour seven private local gardens and Sherman Library's exclusive collection of early American plein-air art.  Tickets are $40 for members and $50 for non-members. Purchase tickets by calling 949-673-2261.

3. Committee members and volunteers are still needed for the 16th annual Sea King Pride Award luncheon scheduled to be held Thursday, May 26. Sea King Pride Awards are awarded by the CdM faculty, staff and administrators to those students who exemplify Sea King Pride.  If you are interested in participating contact, Andrea Fine at afinemom@me.com.

4. The Sharks Wrestling Club in Corona del Mar is adding more sessions and looking for fresh faces. The club was created to teach high school and college style wrestling and is open to beginners, intermediate and advanced wrestlers in fifth through 11th grades. The group meets Saturdays, from 4 to 5:30 p.m., in the Corona del Mar wrestling room. More sessions are expected to be added soon. Youngsters of virtually any size can participate. The club is free of charge but will soon be charging a small fee to help sustain it. To learn more about the club, send an email to phddr@aol.com .
