5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 4

An emergency-alert test, Patch Whiz Kids and senior scholarships.

1. Looking for job-hunting tips? On Fridays, beginning today, from 8 to 9 a.m., the OASIS Senior Job Club will meet to assist job seekers. The group will share information and experiences about the job market. The group will meet in Room 3. Reservations are not required.

2. Don't forget! Today at noon, the city will conduct the Outdoor Emergency Notification System test. For more details read our story here.

3. Do you know a kid or teen who has done something amazing in class, out on the field, in the community or at home? We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid. Submit your nomination to nisha.gutierrez@patch.com. Be sure to include all of the following information: nominator's name and e-mail address, and Whiz Kid's name, age, school, accomplishment and "key to awesomeness" (what made him/her successful).

4. The Corona del Mar High School PTA will award $600 scholarships to 15 graduating seniors. The scholarships reward and encourage good students who have proven involvement in meaningful extracurricular activities, made positive contributions to the school and community, and have shown diligence and/or creativity in achieving academic and/or personal goals, ethical and moral behavior and development of a vision for the future. A 2.5 GPA is required but is not the leading criterion. Applications are available in the counseling office today and must be returned there by May 13 at 1:30 p.m.
