5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 29

A blood drive, scholarships and an art exhibit.

1. Don't forget!  Today is the American Red Cross Blood Drive, from 7 a.m to 1 p.m., at Corona del Mar High School. Get more information at givelife.org.

2. The Corona del Mar Boy's Volleyball teams have home matches today against Northwood. Frosh/soph game is at 4 p.m., junior varsity at 4 p.m. and varsity at 5:15 p.m. Go, Sea Kings!

3. Now through Thursday, April 21, applications and essays are being accepted for the city of Newport Beach scholarship program.  Ten $500 scholarships will be awarded to children who live in Newport Beach or to  children of regular, full-time Newport Beach employees.  Applicants are to have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and must be applying to an accredited two-year community college or an accredited four-year college/university.  To download the full application and read more information on the requirements for the scholarship, click here.

4.  The Newport Beach City Arts Commission is inviting regional artists to participate in the 2011 Newport Beach Art Exhibition and Sale. The event will be held Saturday, April 9, at the Central Library, 1000 Avocado Ave. The exhibition gives art lovers the opportunity to view and purchase paintings, photography and sculptures. Orange County artists at least 18 years old are invited to submit one original work of art to be displayed and judged. Entry forms, along with a $15 entry fee, must be dropped off at the library's cultural arts office.
