5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 28

A blood drive, income tax assistance and Patch Whiz Kids.

1. Don't forget! Appointments are still being accepted for the American Red Cross Blood Drive being held on Tuesday, March 29, from 7 a.m to 1 p.m. The blood drive will take place at Corona del Mar High School. To schedule your appointment go to www.givelife.org

2. The city is now accepting proposals to operate the concessions at Corona del Mar State Beach. Get the details here.

3. The OASIS Senior Center in Corona del Mar continues to offer the AARP Tax-Aide Program to provide free personal income tax assistance to middle- and low-income taxpayers. Tax counselors will be available for Friday appointments through mid-April. Call the OASIS administration office at 949-644-3244 to schedule an appointment.

4. Do you know a kid or teen who has done something amazing in class, out on the field, in the community or at home? We want to hear about these amazing children and teens and select one each week as the Patch Whiz Kid. Submit your nomination to nisha.gutierrez@patch.com. Be sure to include all of the following information: nominator's name and e-mail address, and Whiz Kid's name, age, school, accomplishment and "key to awesomeness" (what made him/her successful).
