5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 25

1.  The OASIS Senior Job Club will meet today, from 8 to 9 a.m., at the OASIS Senior Center in room 3. Participants will gather to share their experiences about the current job market and to help job seekers. The group meets every Friday. Reservations are not required.

2. Don't forget! The annual Newport-Mesa Spirit Run will be held Sunday, March 27. The event will be held at Fashion Island and includes a variety of runs, including 10k and 5k races for adults and a 5k and one-quarter-mile runs for kids. Entry fees range from $20 to $45, depending on the run and time of registration. Prizes will be awarded. Registration begins at 6 a.m. the day of the event. For further information, click here.

3.  Do you have a daughter in grades five through eight who enjoys playing basketball? If so, the Newport Lightning Basketball Club is looking for committed players who are ready to move to the next level of youth basketball.  The AAU-affiliated club basketball program features travel teams that practice twice a week and play in weekend tournaments primarily in the Orange County area. Team formation tryouts will be held Sunday, April 3, at the Sage Hill School Gym, 20402 Newport Coast Dr. Anyone who is should send an email to info@newportlightning.com for additional information.

4.  Now through Thursday, April 21, applications and essays are being accepted for the city of Newport Beach scholarship program.  Ten $500 scholarships will be awarded to children who live in Newport Beach or to  children of regular, full-time Newport Beach employees.  Applicants are to have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better and must be applying to an accredited two-year community college or an accredited four-year college/university.  To download the full application and read more information on the requirements for the scholarship, click here.
