5 Things You Need to Know Today: March 10

Wine bottles, a water workshop and a sobriety checkpoint.

1. Bottles of wine are still needed to help raise money for Corona del Mar High School's graduation party in June. The PTA is asking all CDM families to help by donating that extra bottle of wine you may have in your home. The wine will be used to make wine baskets for a parent fundraiser, and the money that is raised will help pay for the all-inclusive after-graduation party for the 2011 graduates. The goal is to provide a safe, non-driving venue for graduating seniors.  If you are interested, you can drop off your extra wine at 1824 Port Sheffield any day, or e-mail fabuliz@cox.net or 4callas@cox.net, and someone will pick it up from your doorstep.

2. Today, from 6 to 8 p.m., the Newport Beach Library will host the WaterMiser Workshop. The event will be dedicated to educating the public about efficient water use. For more information, call 949-644-3214 or click here.

3. The Newport Beach Police Department will conduct a sobriety/driver's license checkpoint tomorrow, March 11, from 9 p.m. through 3 a.m. Saturday. The checkpoint will be on northbound Dover Drive at 16th Street.

4. Don't forget! The Newport Beach City Arts Commission is inviting regional artists to participate in the 2011 Newport Beach Art Exhibition and Sale. The event will be held Saturday, April 9, at the Central Library, 1000 Avocado Ave. The exhibition gives art lovers the opportunity to view and purchase paintings, photography and sculptures. Orange County artists at least 18 years old are invited to submit one original work of art to be displayed and judged. Entry forms, along with a $15 entry fee, must be dropped off at the library's cultural arts office. The entry form and artwork specifications can be found here. Entry forms are also available at the Newport Beach Central Library, City Hall or any of the branch libraries.  For more information call 949-717-3870.

5. Today will be mostly sunny, with highs in the upper 60s, according to the National Weather Service.
